Jack initially shows up in Chapter 1 on page 15 after Ralph had blown the conch. He shows up from the start to be a startling and frequenting figure in the manner he dresses, a long clearing dark shroud, from a separation resembling an anecdotal character. Jack is presented as obscurity and shadow, â€Å"Within the jewel murkiness of the sea shore something dim was bungling along... the animal ventured from hallucination on to clear sand, and afterward they saw that the obscurity was not all shadow but rather for the most part clothing.† The picture Ralph sees is really Jack and his ensemble young men. He can't help contradicting some of what is stated, â€Å"This was the voice of one who realized his own mind.† He has a scornful mentality towards different young men including the ensemble however shows a hesitant regard and a modest preference for Ralph once Ralph is chosen as pioneer and offers him proceeded with control of the ensemble to be given which ever work Jack picks.
